Preventioneers

We call ourselves Preventioneers, because we are prevention-pioneers.

Margaret Mead once wrote:

“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world.  Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.”

Here are MDPrevent's health services providers and program facilitators:

Steven S. Charlap, MD, MBA

Dr. Steven S. Charlap received an MD from New York University School of Medicine, an MBA from Harvard Business School, and completed a surgical residency at New York’s Beth Israel Medical Center. In 1989, he founded and became Chief Service and Medical Officer of HealthDrive, which he grew to become the largest US provider of medical and dental services to extended care facilities. Over nearly twenty years, a two-time Inc. 500 company, HealthDrive served more than five million patients in over 1,500 facilities across 13 states. In 2000, Dr. Charlap published Making Sense of Nursing Homes-A Guide for Families.

During his tenure at HealthDrive, Dr. Charlap witnessed how unhealthy lifestyles contribute to heart disease, dementia, diabetes, stroke and even some forms of cancer, which often result in costly, invasive and reactive medical treatments.

In response, Dr. Charlap developed the concept of MDPrevent- a medical practice focused on helping patients make lifelong and lasting improvements to their lifestyles to enjoy more healthy years. Dr. Charlap is an experienced coach, speaker, mentor, and educator whose unbridled energy and passion drives MDPrevent.

Yolanda Serrano, RN, AP, DOM

Yolanda has a Master's Degree in Orinetal Medicine, a Nursing Degree, and is a Licensed Acupuncturist. From a young age, she had a natural desire to study medicine, and follow in her father's footsteps. She started as a volunteer helping at the local hospital in my hometown in Ecuador, South America. It was there that she first learned to have compassion and respect for life and human beings in need. After graduating from the School of Obstetrics at the Central University of Quito Ecuador in 1983, she began practicing medicine in both private and hospital settings before relocating to the United States.

She began her medical career in the United States hospital system in 2007 after graduating as a Registered Nurse from County College of Morris in Randolph, New Jersey with a deep understanding of the modern biomedical human body and how it works. With an appreciation of both Western (allopathic) and Eastern (Complementary) medicine, she always dreamed of combining the two together into a more holistic, natural and sincere approach to caring for a person's whole being.  Yolanda started her journey of combining Western and Eastern medicine by obtaining a Master's Degree in Oriental Medicine from the Atlantic Institute of Oriental Medicine in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.  I continued to add to my knowledge by studying CranioSacral Therapy and receiving certification from Upledger Institute International in Florida.
